Classics of the well-loved “Final Fantasy” game series by Square Enix will become available for the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One by next year.
“Final Fantasy” games were previously PlayStation exclusives. Save for a number of PC releases, fans would either have to buy a PlayStation or go on with their gaming lives without having played a “Final Fantasy” game.
The Sept. 13 announcement from Square Enix aimed to remedy this, making a number of the classic “Final Fantasy” games, and some new ones, available for other consoles.
The titles fans can expect in 2019 include “Final Fantasy VII,” which is currently getting a remake, “Final Fantasy IX,” “Final Fantasy X/X-2,” “Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age” and “Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles.”
“World of Final Fantasy Maxima” and “Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon” will be out on the Switch and PlayStation 4 before the year ends. “Maxima” will get additional releases on the Xbox One and Steam.
Meanwhile, “Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD” is already out for the Switch, Xbox One and PS4.
On another note, some “Final Fantasy” fans may notice the absence of “Final Fantasy VIII” in the upcoming games. It may come as a surprise considering the game received positive reviews from both fans and critics at the time of its release. Why it has been left out of the list may get an explanation in future announcements from Square Enix. /ra
