For many people, the Christmas holidays have always been a time to regroup and spend time with family and friends. The pandemic and its attendant restrictions have made any of that difficult to do and, some say, downright dangerous.

To lift everyone’s spirits, Acer Philippines launched an anthem of hope for the holidays. The video “Finding Joy” was uploaded on YouTube last week and has since garnered over 120,000 views and thousands of likes and comments.

I listened to it and found the beat catchy and the sentiment heartfelt. I also discovered the beautiful voice of Janina Vela, who opens the video.

YouTube sensation Janina Vela opens the video.

The song and lyrics are by Mart Sam Olivades, Felichi Salva Cruz and Penelope Ann Medrano. It’s about breaking barriers and staying hopeful during this difficult time.

The video features a number of celebrities, including Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla. Due to pandemic restrictions and to drive home the point of staying connected virtually, the featured artists all performed separately.

It starts with a single frame showing Janina Vela singing and then chatting with Kathryn Bernardo, who breaks into a short dance. More frames are added throughout featuring Daniel Padilla, rock singer Cong Velasquez, Ivana Alawi and Awi Columna.

Aside from being an actor, Daniel is also a singer who used perform in a band. Janina is a YouTube star, content creator and singer known for her beautiful soothing voice. Cong is also a YouTube sensation and member of rock band COLN. Awi is a rapper whose popular songs include “Panaginip Lang,” “Peke” and “Bulalakaw.”

Perfect song

After a couple of playbacks, you just might be singing along. “When every second feels uncertain, all that’s lost is given time. You’ll be found and you’ll be fine. Breathe in deep and see the stars light up the sky.”

“Finding Joy” is both serious and light-hearted; it’s the perfect song for the season, as it expresses hope and optimism.

“We at Acer Philippines see ‘Finding Joy’ as the anthem for the times,” said Acer Philippines managing director Manuel Wong. “The world has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic but we should not feel defeated by this. Despite the lockdowns and quarantines, Acer Philippines has retained its leadership in consumer and gaming PCs. It shows that even during challenging times, people are capable of breaking barriers.”

It was also during the pandemic that Acer Philippines opened its first online store in the country to cater to those who cannot go to Acer’s physical stores, demonstrating its commitment to its customers.
