NSFW Twitter Accounts Hit By Glitches In Twitter’s Privacy Settings
Twitter has been a platform that enabled people to promote NSFW or “not safe for work” content without violating content guidelines.
Unfortunately, recent glitches have been flagging tweets from sex workers for containing sensitive content.
They suspect that the social media platform might have been demoting or removing their NSFW content on iOS to appease Apple.

Apple has been removing apps like Tumblr from the App Store for not properly moderating child sexual abuse material or CSAM.
Twitter could be next if it does not improve its content moderation. Meanwhile, sex workers have noticed that the platform has been flagging their content for showing sensitive content.
The web version lets users click and unclick a box with the caption “Display media that may contain sensitive content.”
However, iOS does not allow turning that setting on or off. Worse, even safe-for-work (SFW) accounts representing sex workers have experienced this issue.
Web settings should allow people to confirm their willingness to view sensitive media. Still, they cannot view NSFW content.
Ashley, a sex worker and community organizer, spoke with TechCrunch regarding this issue. She said, “We know what we are seeing is a bug, but I believe it to be of the botched roll out, A/B testing, rush job variety.”
“This may not be intended functionality today, but we must seize on this glimpse of a possible future to make sure this disdain for basic human rights, user agency, and broad untransparent censorship is categorically unacceptable.”
Elon Musk promised to uphold free speech when he acquired the social network. However, he has not explained how Twitter will handle legal NSFW content.
He recently fired a fraction of the Twitter workforce. Coincidentally, web settings fail to save on the iOS app.
Users worry that they will likely experience more errors as the social media team gets smaller. Eventually, they fear the platform might become unsafe.
