Google announces AirDrop compatibility for other Android brands

01:02 AM May 13, 2026

Earlier this year at Samsung Unpacked 2026, the South Korean technology company announced cross-compatibility between Quick Share and AirDrop, bridging the iOS to Android file sharing ecosystem. Turns out, this was a test bed rollout for the Android ecosystem in general. Google has announced the rollout for more device brands including OPPO, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi and HONOR this year.

If you don’t have a compatible device, you can use Quick Share on any Android phone togenerate a QR code, which will let you instantly share with iOS devices via the cloud. Soon, Quick Share will also be enabled within apps such as Whatsapp.

Samsung has a unique partnership with Google. From a global standpoint they have been considered the closest flagbearer of the Android brand outside Pixel, which is owned by Google. Samsung’s scale allows it to test new features first with the flagship S-series. This was true when Samsung unveiled Circle to Search at Samsung Unpacked 2024 and Android Intelligence at Samsung Unpacked 2026. They were also the first to unveil the AirDrop to Quick Share compatibility on the S26 series.
