Katy Perry’s ‘Dark Horse’ leads top 10 trending YouTube music videos in PH
MANILA, Philippines — Google on Wednesday released the Top 10 trending YouTube music videos in the Philippines in 2014 with Katy Perry’s Egyptian-inspired music video “Dark Horse” leading the list.
In the video, Katy Perry played the role “Katy Pätra,” alluding the Egyptian pharoah Cleopatra, where she ruled the ancient kingdom by the Nile River. As of posting time, the music video has garnered 716,834,745 views.
The top five trending music videos in the country are rounded out by international hit songs; Jason Derulo’s club hit “Wiggle” placed second, South Korean PSY’s “Hangover” placed third, Taylor Swift’s catchy pop song “Shake It Off” ranked fourth, while 2014 MTV Music Awards Video of the Year awardee “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea featuring Charlie XCX ranked fifth.
Article continues after this advertisementMeanwhile, Yeng Constantino’s “Ikaw”, which featured Constantino serenading her fiancé Victor Asuncion in various scenic places in the country, placed sixth in the list. “Ikaw” is the only Original Pilipino Music (OPM) entry to break into the top 10.
Trailing after Constantino are the following entries: Meghan Trainor’s body acceptance anthem “All About That Bass” which ranked seventh, Alex Goot, Kurt Schneider, and Chrissy Costanza cover of OneRepublic’s “Counting Stars” placed eighth, Chris Brown’s “Loyal” became the ninth trending video and rounding up the top 10 list is Nicki Minaj’s twerking video “Anaconda.”
Meanwhile, the sing-along version to the 2013 Oscar-winning song “Let It Go” from the animated film “Frozen” became the top trending non-music YouTube video in the Philippines. As of posting time, the said video has raked in 248,028,205 views.
Article continues after this advertisementFor 2014, a prank involving a dog donned in a spider suit victimizing strangers was hailed as the top trending non-music video in the world. The video, entitled “Mutant Giant Spider Dog”, has gained 113,929,723 views as of posting time.
In 2013, Psy’s “Gentleman” became the top trending video in the country and in the world while Katy Perry’s jungle-inspired video “Roar” placed second.
