LG has gained a reputation for wowing audiences at the annual Consumer Electronics Show or CES. This year is no different as the company showcased its latest innovation – what is supposedly the thinnest TV to date.

With a tagline of “Picture on Wall,” LG’s new W-series 4K sets are more like modern works of art decorating a wall than television sets, reports Engadget.

Still utilizing OLED display technology, what’s different about the W-series is that LG basically took out most of the electronics not required for picture creation and shoved them all into a companion soundbar including the ports. The main display then connects to the sound bar through a thin cable to complete the setup.

FEATURED STORIES

The sound bar itself features a variety of connectivity options including three USB ports, four HDMI, and one optical audio port. It is also Dolby Atmos capable.

Due to the W-series being only 2.6mm thin (most smartphones would be thicker than this ‘thinnest TV’), it is only wall mountable. At a mere 17 pounds for the 65-inch version, it shouldn’t pose that much of a problem, provided free wall space is available. There will also be a larger 77-inch version that weighs 27 pounds.

Pricing and release date are still a mystery but going by last year’s G-series that started at $4,999, it would be reasonable to estimate that the W-series will start near the same price point. Alfred Bayle
