Ragnarok to relaunch in PH on May 7

Gamers of all ages will once again be treated to a journey back to Prontera, as the internationally acclaimed massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMRPG) Ragnarok online is set to invade Philippine servers anew.

To commemorate the return of arguably the “mother of all”  MMRPGs, SM City North Edsa Annex is inviting both casual and hardcore gamers to take part in the Ragna Festival on May 7.

According to a Facebook post by Ragnarok Online Philippines, the event will feature multiple bands and celebrities. Lucky fans will also be able to win prizes and in-game items.

Apart from the festivities, new developments of the relaunch are expected to be announced as well.

Meanwhile, Ragnarok online PH officially closed down its servers in March 2015, after being unable to cope up with the rise of mobile platform MMRPGs.

The iconic game’s comeback looks to be an attempt to elicit nostalgia among earlier generations that enjoyed the game in the past, while also enticing new players to try the franchise.

At the height of its popularity in the early 2000s, the sprite-based game spawned multiple spin-offs internationally and influenced a massive cult following over the years. The game also paved way for an anime series “Ragnarok the Animation” in 2005.  Khristian Ibarrola /ra
