There have been loads of speculations about the coming of GTA 6 (Grand Theft Auto VI), even though the game developers – Rockstar Games have not made any official statement concerning its release. A Kotaku report claimed that a new “entry” into the Grand Theft Auto series was in early development as of April 2020. The report also stated that gamers should expect a small launch with game updates reminiscent of an MMO or GTA Online.

Currently, the latest news about the GTA 6 release date is that it will be in 2025. A tip follows this speculation that the new GTA will be set within a modern-day Vice City version that will evolve as time goes on.

A previous leak said GTA 6 might be of the release on October 3 and would be set in Miami. The leak also stated that the game protagonist would be a single male character, the game would be set in the 1970s and the story would be chaptered similar to Red Dead Redemption 2.

To top off all the speculations, the official Rockstar Support Twitter account keeps teasing fans and telling them to “stay tuned” for more Grand Theft Auto VI updates, which would definitely include a GTA 6 release date.

GTA 6 Setting

So far, there have been several rumored GTA 6 setting spots. Some sources say the game may be set in Vice City, others say it will span across the US. The most current speculations insinuate that the GTA 6 location will be a modern-day Vice City recreation. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has also validated this rumor.

Other Notable Rumors

In March 2021, the popular leaker Tom Henderson, a reliable tipster, wrote on Twitter that GTA 6 would be set in a present-day open world, and this debunked the other GTA 6 rumors flying around that the game would be set in the 1980s or 1970s.

However, in 2020, a big GTA 6 leak showed up on Reddit. User JackOLantern1982 dropped a major total of 23 details regarding the forthcoming Grand Theft Auto release.

In the leak, GTA 6 was confirmed. Its codename was Project Americas because the game will span several countries. This is including Brazil and the US. It is also possible that the game narrative would be significant of the influence by Netflix’s Narcos (a fantastic series about how the cocaine trade began).

Furthermore, the leak also stated that players would build their drug empires with the help of a mechanic akin to that of Vice City Stories. However, more detailed and even bigger than GTA online. Players will have a vehicle that works like a horse in Red Dead Redemption 2, and this means they can store gear and other equipment inside the trunk instead of carrying on the character.

On Fireden, another GTA 6 leak claimed that the setting would be in present-day Liberty City. The game would begin like the TV show – The Wire. This leak also suggests the new Grand Theft Auto follows a drug ring narrative.

These rumors are quite wide-ranging so let’s narrow it down by bringing in some historical facts.

So far, these are the locations that have been in GTA games:

  • San Andreas / Los Santos – GTA: San Andreas, GTA 5
  • Liberty City – GTA 3, GTA 4, Lost and Damned, The Ballad of Gay Tony
  • Vice City – GTA Vice City

Leaning against these facts, Liberty City or Vice City seem like the most likely spots the new GTA 6 might return to. Still, Rockstar may want to delve into new settings and locations.

There are numerous speculations about the storyline and characters in the new GTA 6.
The Reddit leak of 2020 says that the game would have a single male leading character called Ricardo. He’s possibly to be a rising wannabe drug lord. Another major playable character is someone of the name Kacey.

According to this Reddit leak, players will begin as a “grunt” smuggling cocaine from Vice City to the South American area before leveling up by associating with major drug kingpins. A younger Martin Madrazo will purportedly show up in the game and his father, a mega drug lord.

Players will have to carry out some hit jobs for the Madrazo family on members of rival gangs. The Grand Theft Auto VI storyline will also (reportedly) deal with the immigration crisis and HIV.

On the other hand, from the Fireden leak, rumor suggests that the game would have four leading characters – two gang members and two cops. The storyline would supposedly split after some time. The police side would be a typical action game with a bit of LA Noire, while the crime side would be a kind of crime-empire-building scenario (think the Sims combined with Fallout 4).

The most current leak from June 2021 claims that the present-day Vice City game would have numerous protagonists to choose from. Also, a game map that will continue to evolve as time goes on (just like Fortnite does).

As far back as 2013, Rockstar North’s former President teased the possibility of GTA 6 during his interview with Develop Magazine. This interview was the beginning of all Grand Theft Auto rumors.

According to Benzies in his interview, “We don’t know what GTA 6 will be, but we’ve got some ideas. We’ve got about 45 years’ worth of ideas we want to do. We’ll pick the right ones. It comes from the idea first, and the first question is where it will be set. That defines the missions; you’re doing different things in LA than in New York or Miami. The map and story get worked up together, and the story is a basic flow of how it works out so you can layer the mission in.”

Although Benzies didn’t spill a lot of tea about what GTA 6 could be before leaving Rockstar North under rather harsh circumstances. It is implausible that Rockstar will get rid of the GTA series development process. The Grand Theft Auto series is popular for its emphasis on world-building and layered characters and structures. Also, it’s changing a successful development template seems very highly unlikely.
