Elon Musk Perfume Sells Total Of $1 Million

03:07 PM October 14, 2022

Elon Musk stayed true to his name after changing his Twitter title to “Perfume Salesman.” Musk now sells a fragrance bottle named “Burnt Hair.”

The product page describes it as “the essence of repugnant desire.” In other words, the Tesla CEO is completely aware of how silly the fragrance is.

Despite the ironic marketing, people bought a million dollars worth of Elon Musk perfume. Perhaps the ridiculous method was intentional?

FEATURED STORIES

Would you buy a scent named “Burnt Hair: The Essence of Repugnant Desire?” The product page dares people to “Let The Flames Begin” and describes it with the following statements:

“Just like leaning over a candle at the dinner table, but without all the hard work.” Also, “Stand out in a crowd! Get noticed as you walk through the airport.”

The price also leaves a lot to be desired. Believe it or not, a bottle costs around $100.00. In other words, that is worth ₱6,000.00. Yet, people bought a total of $1 million!

How did that happen? It plays with the conventional way of promoting fragrances. They usually feature a celebrity posing as an ad blurb describing the product in serious yet abstract terms.

Meanwhile, the Elon Musk perfume sets itself apart from the competition by describing its gross odor with silly scenarios. Unlike ordinary perfume ads, it uses tongue-in-cheek, self-deprecating humor.

As a result, the Tesla CEO used joy marketing to promote his musk. The strategy involves using messages that invoke positive emotions to promote products.

It is especially effective nowadays due to the aftermath of the global pandemic. People want something fun amidst the mounting bad news, and the Elon Musk perfume served as the answer.

You could buy the Elon Musk perfume through regular channels like PayPal or Google Pay. Alternatively, you could purchase it with Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB) coins.

It is an expected move as the billionaire has been well-known for wacky antics. For example, he dubbed himself the “Dogefather” as he promoted Dogecoin in 2021.

He was also on an episode of the late-night comedy show Saturday Night Live. Musk acted as Wario, a character from the Super Mario video game.

Musk also sold flamethrowers via his infrastructure and tunnel construction firm, The Boring Company. Perhaps it was the start of the Elon Musk perfume?

Conclusion

Elon Musk owns The Boring Company, but he can be quite entertaining. For example, he recently sold a million dollars worth of Burnt Hair perfume.

Yet, the silly product used an effective marketing strategy. It used joy marketing by using self-aware, funny descriptions. People probably bought it to get in on the joke.
