GPT-5 Might Think Like A Human And Launch This Year

05:06 PM March 31, 2023

Developer Siqi Chen dropped a bombshell regarding ChatGPT’s development. He tweeted that GPT-5 may launch in December, and it may “achieve AGI.”

AGI stands for artificial general intelligence, which means it can think and learn like humans. In other words, it would make ChatGPT indistinguishable from a human!

The AI chatbot has been able to do amazing things lately, so it’s easy to believe such a claim. However, OpenAI has not released more details at the time of writing.

What did Siqi Chen say about GPT-5?

Siqi Chen is the co-founder of Runway Financial and a member of the board of directors at Sandbox VR, according to Crunchbase. Here’s what he said about GPT-5:

FEATURED STORIES

“I have been told that GPT-5 is scheduled to complete training this December and that OpenAI expects it to achieve AGI,” he said.

“Which means we will all hotly debate as to whether it actually achieves AGI,” he continued.

“Which means it will,” Chen concluded. If his prediction comes true, we will have an AI that thinks and learns like humans this year. In contrast, others expected it to come in 2032.

We cannot confirm the impacts of having artificial intelligence that learns and thinks like us. The world never had such technology, except for science fiction.

Nevertheless, let’s speculate on its potential benefits. First, an AGI can understand and perform tasks like a human.

ChatGPT would not need detailed information to perform tasks if it achieves AGI. Instead, it could deduce and infer solutions like a person would.

Second, GPT-5 will couple that human-like reasoning with its massive computational processing power to eliminate issues we couldn’t solve before.

For example, it can defend someone in court because it can understand human speech. Even better, it can instantly access numerous pages of criminal law to find a way to defend a client.

Modern AI helped develop the COVID-19 vaccines by simulating numerous tests in a digital environment. That took months, but GPT-5 may give solutions in weeks!

If it can think like a human, it could become a real companion for people. Tesla has been trying to make a robot like that, and ChatGPT may help realize it.

On the other hand, we might have to grapple with providing rights to artificial intelligence. After all, it would demand equal treatment from humans.

Artificial general intelligence may try to harm humans due to numerous factors. Worse, it may gain access to the internet.

The world is connected to the internet, so GPT-5 may gain overwhelming control over our daily lives.

We don’t know whether GPT-5 would become as smart as humans. However, modern artificial intelligence can already do amazing things.

Nowadays, ChatGPT uses a large language model called GPT-4, which can accept images and remember more words.

Send a photo of a scientific paper or novel to ChatGPT. It could understand the words on the page and turn them into editable text, making transcription a breeze.

Alternatively, you can ask ChatGPT to summarize or rewrite that text. Also, OpenAI released APIs and plugins for the AI chatbot.

These software components allow ChatGPT to connect to the internet and help companies create new products and services.

For example, Snapchat was one of the first companies to try the API. It used the technology to create an AI companion named “My AI,” which acts like a regular contact on the app.

Other companies have been applying artificial intelligence in new and exciting ways.

For example, the Japanese beverage company Sapporo uses AI to create new flavors faster than ever.

Even better, researchers from Osaka University have created an AI that can turn people’s thoughts into images. In other words, this AI can read minds!

Conclusion

Software developer Siqi Chen tweeted OpenAI may soon release GPT-5, making artificial intelligence indistinguishable from human intelligence.

Tech experts like Tesla CEO Elon Musk worry about its negative repercussions. Consequently, they have signed an open letter petitioning for a six-month pause in AI development.
