Amazon Web Services will spend $100 million on its upcoming Generative AI Innovation Center. Despite its namesake, the company told CNBC it is a “program,” not a physical facility.

Program head Sri Elaprolu explained to TechRepublic how it would work. “First, we work with the customers to identify the business opportunities and the potential generative AI use cases,” he said.

“Then, our team helps them plan and develop proofs-of-concept, and lastly, we help them prepare for production launch at scale,” Elaprolu added. Also, the Amazon press release said it would offer free courses:

“Through no-cost workshops, engagements, and training, AWS will help customers imagine and scope the use cases that will create the greatest value for their businesses, based on best practices and industry expertise.”

“The Generative AI Innovation Center team will provide guidance on best practices for applying generative AI responsibly and optimizing machine learning operations to reduce costs.”

The program will enable customers to use AWS generative AI services CodeWhisperer and Bedrock. The former is an AI-powered programming tool.

It takes feedback through comments and then suggests appropriate code. CodeWhisperer works with popular languages like Java, C#, Python, and more.

Bedrock allows companies to integrate powerful and reliable AI models called foundation models to customize them for their purposes. As a result, they can easily use artificial intelligence for significantly less time and money.

In response, Bedrock will generate web copy, display ads, and social media posts for the new merchandise. More importantly, this AWS service is scalable, enabling small and large businesses to use it.

The AWS Innovation Center head shared examples of how AI can help various industries like the automotive, media, telecommunications, and energy sectors. Also, he detailed how healthcare could benefit from this technology.

In December 2022, Amazon announced it was testing its drone delivery service in Lockeford, California, and College Station, Texas. The online shopping company explained how it works:

“The drone will fly to the designated delivery location, descend to the customer’s backyard, and hover at a safe height. It will then safely release the package and rise back up to altitude.

Conclusion

Amazon Web Services invested $100 million to start the Generative AI Innovation Center. AWS CEO Adam Selipsky told CNBC the company believes in the AI trend.

“AI is going to be this next wave of innovation in the cloud. It’s going to be the next big thing that pushes even more customers to want to be in the cloud. Really, you need the cloud for generative AI.”
