New chapter for Where Winds Meet to release on April 2
MANILA, Philippines – “Liangzhou,” the second chapter of the Hexi expansion for its open-world Wuxia ARPG Where Winds Meet is set to release on April 2.
The update brings players into a shifting frontier with new storylines, combat systems, and a stark contrast to the desert setting of its predecessor.
Serving as the middle act of a three-part expansion, Liangzhou continues the narrative after the events of Jade Gate Pass. It transitions players from vast desert landscapes to snowbound mountains and fortified border towns, where both the story and gameplay grow more complex.

A New Frontier: From Desert to Snow
Liangzhou opens up a new explorable region that sharply contrasts with Chapter 1’s arid terrain. Inspired by classical Eastern poetic imagery, the map blends romantic visuals like glowing wine cups under moonlight with the rigid, militaristic atmosphere of a frontier stronghold.
The region does not remain static. A key turning point in the storyline introduces a mysterious environmental shift, altering how players navigate and engage with the world, signaling a more dynamic approach to exploration and combat.

Dual Narratives in a Turbulent Era
At the heart of the update are two parallel story arcs that deepen the game’s emotional and narrative scope.
“Liangzhou Melody” follows a wandering musician searching for a home he has never known, while “Paper Moon” centers on a conflict within a Buddhist hall that changes the lives of those involved. Both narratives are tied by a shared longing for Chang’an, offering a reflective contrast to the chaos of the frontier.
The expansion introduces Raging Tides, a new sect forged through military roots. In combat, the group embodies discipline, unity, and endurance, emphasizing coordinated battle strategies and shared survival.
Outside the battlefield, however, the sect reveals a contrasting identity – one that embraces freedom, leisure, and a deep appreciation for wine, adding nuance to its otherwise rigid philosophy.
A key highlight of Where Winds Meet Hexi Expansion Chapter 2: Liangzhou is the arrival of the Heng Blade, a weapon modeled after Tang Dynasty craftmanship. Defined by its regular precision, the blade introduces a deflect-and-counter system that rewards timing and calculated aggression.

The weapon’s animations, crafted by acclaimed action choreographer Stephen Tung Wai, bring a cinematic quality to combat. It also anchors a new martial arts path, ‘’Stonesplit Strength,’’ expanding player choice alongside existing heavy-weapon styles.
New Campaigns and Boss Encounters
Players can take on the “Death of Governor” campaign, which blends investigation and trap navigation, or face “Town Gate Roar,” a massive guardian encounter during siege warfare scenarios.
The wilderness is further brought to life through distinct world bosses, including the melancholic Moongazing Maiden, the symbolic Everdeer, and the surreal Pocketrupt Circus, each offering varied and unpredictable encounters.
The update highlights Everstone Studio’s ongoing effort to expand the world and narrative of Where Winds Meet through large-scale content releases. (By Rich Longakit, INQUIRER.net Intern)
