ABS-CBN unit partners with Huawei, Cloudfone

MANILA, Philippines–The telco unit of ABS-CBN Corp. has partnered with phone makers Huawei and Cloudfone as part of efforts to lure more subscribers to use its ABS-CBNmobile service.

ABS-CBN said in a statement Wednesday that the partnership would allow both handset makers to bundle their phones with ABS-CBNmobile SIM cards, potentially increasing the service’s user base.

Each phone kit comes with exclusive offers such as weekly one-day Internet load for a month. They also come with pre-installed ABS-CBNmobile apps such as iWanT TV and featured celebrities on iWant Stars, the statement showed.

The partnership provides a platform for these phone users to watch ABS-CBN’s television shows on the smartphones.

ABS-CBNmobile, which was launched in November last year, had 537,000 subscribers as of end-June and plans to end the year with about a million subscribers, the company’s group chief financial officer Rolando Valdueza said in a previous interview.–Miguel R. Camus
