Pope tweets anew in Filipino, reminds that ‘we are children of God’

FRANCIS-TWEET-5

MANILA, Philippines—Pope Francis on Sunday posted his fifth tweet in the Filipino language, reminding Filipinos “we are children of God.”

The tweet shared a similar theme with the Pope’s homily during his final Mass in the country on Sunday at Quirino Grandstand. He told the record-breaking crowd, “In Christ, we have become God’s adopted children.”

Madalas nating makalimutang pagtuunan ng pansin ang mga bagay na talagang mahalaga. Nakakalimutan natin na tayo’y Anak ng Diyos,” the tweet read.

The English translation was posted two minutes earlier: “How often we forget to dedicate ourselves to that which truly matters! We forget that we are children of God.”

The tweet was posted after Pope Francis returned to Apostolic Nunciature in Taft, Manila, after a long day on Sunday meeting youth and religious leaders at University of Santo Tomas (UST) and celebrating Mass at Quirino Grandstand.

The @Pontifex Twitter account has about five million followers worldwide.

The Pontiff earlier wrote on UST’s guestbook: “May the Lord bless all those studying and working for a culture of encounter.”

Offline, the number of attendees of the Mass at Quirino Grandstand was estimated to be six million, according to MMDA Chair Francis Tolentino.

Pope Francis is scheduled to depart for Vatican City at 10 a.m. on Sunday after a five-day state and pastoral visit to the Philippines.
