The “Disney Afternoon Collection” launches April 18 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC, and includes six games based on characters from Disney’s late-80s and mid-90s TV programming block.

Video game giant Capcom has announced a surprise Disney nostalgia project for April 2017.

“DuckTales” was upgraded and re-released in 2013 as “DuckTales: Remastered”, and it’s the original that leads the “Disney Afternoon Collection” here.

FEATURED STORIES

As with all the games in the compendium, it contains a number of extra features designed to ease the trip back in time.

A rewind feature lets players undo errors or failed moves, there’s a boss rush that lets players tackle only the game’s end-of-level enemies, and online leaderboards facilitate instant speedrun comparisons (though rule out the use of Rewind).

Concept art, sketches, music and other extras are also promised.

Joining 1989’s “DuckTales” and bookending the collection is its direct sequel, “DuckTales 2”, which was well-received but much less well-circulated when it was released on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993.

Also included are both “Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers” and “Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers 2” starring Disney’s mischievous chipmunks on missions to defeat Fat Cat’s plans; “Darkwing Duck” has its avian superhero set out to save his city from criminal organization FOWL.

Those five jump ‘n’ run platform games are joined by “TaleSpin” based on the cartoon featuring Baloo the bear from “The Jungle Book”, which instead fits into the side-scrolling shoot ’em up genre that was popular at the time.

All six were produced by Tokuro Fujiwara, who worked on a number of original Capcom classics such as “Ghost ‘n Goblins”, “Mega Man”, “Commando” and “Bionic Commando”.

All six remasters are based on the original Nintendo Entertainment System releases (and re-released, though without the rewind, time attack or boss rush features, through its eShop as Virtual Console downloads for more recent consoles). JB
