Most people pop in a pill or drink a syrup when they feel sick. At most, they go to a hospital for a checkup. A man from Guanzhou, China took to a more traditional approach and stuck a live eel up his anus, as prescribed by a “folk remedy” for constipation that he had heard about.
The man was identified as 49-year-old Mr. Liu. The eel was a 50-centimeter (20-inch) specimen which he successfully inserted in his own anus, reports TomoNews.
Once inside, the eel managed to tear through Mr. Liu’s intestines and started to move around in his midsection. On the outside, his midsection began to swell, which prompted him to go to the hospital for a checkup.
The doctors were initially surprised to hear about Mr. Liu’s condition, to say the least, since Mr. Liu did not inform them of how the eel got inside him in the first place. Doctors later advised him to get immediate surgery to remove the animal, as it had already torn a hole through his duodenum. They feared that the eel might do more damage to his internal organs if not removed immediately.
At this point, Mr. Liu insisted on not telling the doctors of the “folk remedy” he supposedly tried. Instead, he claimed that the eel got inside him by accident. It was only after the eel was successfully extracted that Mr. Liu gave his admission. The eel died inside his body.
