New Core X-series processors by Intel targets enthusiasts and gamers
PC gamers have been known to have some stringent demands when it comes to the hardware they use for gaming. PC enthusiasts and digital content creators are just as demanding.
To address the needs of this group of PC users, Intel has introduced a new line of processors designated as the Core X-series at the tech trade show Computex 2017 in Taiwan.
Article continues after this advertisementGamers will benefit from the new Core X-series as it will allow them to do 4K gaming while streaming over the internet. Content creators on the other hand can take advantage of up to 10 cores/20 threads to quickly output digital content. More iterations will be made available later on, which include 12, 14, 16 and 18-core variants.
Intel also positions the X-series as the processor of choice for overclocking.
All the new Core X-series processors will be working with a new X299 motherboard chipset. Intel notes that partner products equipped with this new chipset should begin coming out in the next few weeks.
Article continues after this advertisementFor the true enthusiast, Intel offers the Core i9 Extreme Edition which boasts 18 cores/36 threads. The processor is also the first of its kind in Intel’s lineup. With all its horsepower, Intel pegs the processor for use in virtual reality, advanced gaming and content creation.
For pricing, the initial wave of X-series processors will start with the Core i5 7640X X-series with 4 cores/4 threads at $242 (roughly P12,000). The highest-end i9 7900X X-series that has 10cores/20 threads will be priced at $999 (nearly P50,000).
As for the Core i9-7980 Extreme Edition, it will have 18 cores/36 threads and a price of $1,999 (almost P100,000).
Coincidentally, AMD announced their own 16-core processors codenamed “Threadripper” just over a week ago. JB
