The HDMI Forum, Inc., an organization that develops the HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) specification, has announced the latest version for the interface and its resolution range which now goes as high up as 10K.

A resolution of 10K or Ultra-Wide 10K follows the 21:9 aspect ratio. Adding this resolution to HDMI 2.1 would benefit computer setups which employ multiple monitors or use ultra-wide displays to increase desktop space.

According to the statement, HDMI 2.1 will also support 48 gigabits per second bandwidth for ultra high speed HDMI cables. These cables allow the playback of 8K video with high dynamic range.

The new HDMI version will also be backward compatible with earlier HDMI versions. This means current devices with HDMI 2.0 will still be usable when paired with future products with HDMI 2.1.

Aside from all these, HDMI 2.1 comes with a variety of other benefits. A chart provided by HDMI Forum illustrates what will become possible with HDMI 2.1. JB
