In the name of evolving its brand, Mozilla reached out to internet users to help the company decide on the new face of Firefox and its related services.

Mozilla opened up discussions on the prospects of Firefox’s new logo through a company blog post on July 30. According to the statement, the continued evolution of the internet and how people use it prompted them to rethink how users see the Firefox brand as more than just an internet browser.

The post gave two design options for users to look at and discuss. The first one totally redesigned the fox and its tail wrapped around a blue sphere into simply a fox’s head. However, they kept the old fox and tail logo as an exclusive icon for the browser.

The second option left just the fox’s tail for the brand logo while keeping the fox in the browser icon. They also took out the blue globe, which the fox previously wrapped itself around on.

Both options also featured additional icons for an expanded range of services that would fall under the Firefox branding.

Mozilla specified that the post was not meant for crowdsourcing the decision-making process through votes, nor were they asking for designs to be made for free. The company simply wanted to hear what users thought about the internally made logo designs and how they could be improved upon. People who want to be heard may leave feedback at the post’s comment section.

Firefox has always been an open-source browser, which made it stand out among options like Chrome and Internet Explorer since these browsers were made by big, for-profit companies.

Parent company Mozilla itself is a non-profit corporation, driven by its manifesto of providing equal internet access to any person on the planet. With this in mind, it only makes sense that the company gives users a say on what works best for them. The process is actually a repeat of when Mozilla had to undergo a redesign of its logo in 2016. Mozilla’s products currently include the Firefox Quantum desktop browser, the Firefox mobile browser, the Firefox Focus ad blocker, and the various add-ons for its browsers.  /ra
