Horse blinder for human use comes with noise-canceling tech

A Japanese tech company thought about the many distractions found in working remotely or in an open office environment, and developed high-tech horse blinders for humans to help with concentration.

Dubbed Wear Space, the gadget is fairly self-explanatory since it wraps around a user’s head and narrows the field of vision, just like how horse blinders keep track horses from getting distracted and help them focus on running forward.

Unlike horse blinders, however, Wear Space comes with noise-canceling technology since people also tend to get distracted easily with what they hear, especially if it’s juicy gossip.

Developed by Panasonic, the idea of Wear Space is to help create a personal space of “work mode” for the user. Since open offices and being out in public tend to break down walls of privacy, the company thought creating an isolating environment could marry the bonuses of being a mobile worker with the more professional atmosphere of an office space or cubicle.

Anrealage fashion brand creator Kunihiko Morinaga helped design Wear Space.

Rather than produce the gadget traditionally, Panasonic opted to distribute Wear Space through a crowdfunding campaign on Japanese crowdfunding site Green Funding.

The price for a piece of personal space will set people back 30,500 yen, or about P15,000.

Wear Space could come in handy when a quiet cafe is hard to find, but then again just using earphones and turning up the volume could work too. Just keep in mind to take breaks to avoid permanent hearing loss.  /ra
