Do you remember Musk’s attempt to acquire Twitter? A user asked him in August whether he planned on creating a social network. The billionaire replied, “X.com.”

Then, Musk shared part of his vision during Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting. The CEO mentioned he had a “pretty grand vision” for the X app to become “very useful to the world.”

He also discussed making a social media network powered by blockchain. This detail may not surprise folks who know Musk’s love of cryptocurrencies.

Musk supports Dogecoin (DOGE), calling himself the “Dogefather.” According to Business Insider, he shared his thoughts about it with his younger brother, Kimbal Musk.

Musk’s court battle with Twitter made his messages public. Elon Musk said he wanted to create a “Doge” social media platform with his younger brother.

Musk texted, “You have to pay a tiny amount to register your message on the chain, which will cut out the vast majority of spam and bots.”

The Tesla CEO postponed his Twitter acquisition because he believed Twitter had more fake accounts than reports indicated. Consequently, the Elon Musk super app would likely try to prevent this issue.

He also said that he would prioritize free speech once he owned Twitter. As a result, Musk may do the same with his super app.

The billionaire has repeatedly shown he dislikes ads, but they provide most of the network’s revenue. In turn, Musk proposed that premium users should pay three dollars a month and automatically receive a verified account.

Twitter already has a subscription service called Twitter Blue that offers an Edit button for posts. Also, it launched a “Tips” feature last year that lets users pay Bitcoin to others.

Super apps are not super new.

You may have heard of the Elon Musk super app news in this article. Yet, some parts of the world already have super apps. What makes an app “super?”

Super apps provide functions that usually come from various ones. For example, let us look at WeChat, a Chinese social media app owned by Tencent.

It is the same company that owns TikTok. However, WeChat has far more features, such as messaging, video chatting, ride services, food delivery, and more.

You could compare it to lumping Lyft, Uber Eats, Discord, and WhatsApp into a single app. Yet, the idea may seem familiar if you live in the Philippines.

Many Filipinos use the Grab super app. It provides ride services, food deliveries, online shopping, hotel booking, and even insurance.

Conclusion

An Elon Musk super app could be in the works, but it may struggle in the US market. Jasmine Enberg, the principal analyst at Insider Intelligence, said:

“Old habits are hard to break, and people in the U.S. are used to using different apps for different activities.” However, it may have a better chance in the Philippines.
