How to fix smartphone charging

You’re probably on this guide due to a smartphone charging issue. You were probably ready to plug your mobile device after a long day, and it suddenly stopped refilling its battery. 

This issue may stem from multiple reasons, such as a faulty charging cable to a battery problem.

Nevertheless, you should try simple troubleshooting tips before bringing your phone to a repair shop or getting a new one.

Here are the basic ways you can fix an Android and iOS phone that isn’t charging properly. Note that these may change depending on your phone’s model.

How to fix an Android smartphone charging issue

The official Android help website says the first thing you should do is restart your phone by holding down the power button.

Then, Lifewire says you should try smartphone charging with a different power outlet. If that doesn’t work, use a different charger and cable. 

Your cord and adapter might be faulty, preventing them from charging your device.

If the issue persists, check your gadget’s charging port for dust and other particles. 

Blow them away, and do not pick them off with a thin object. Otherwise, you may damage your smartphone further or injure yourself.

Try smartphone charging again. If the battery still isn’t refilling, close all apps and clear their caches. Do the latter with the following instructions for Android OS 8 or later:

1. Open Settings and select Apps.
2. Next, tap the app whose cache you want to clear.
3. Select Storage or Storage & Cache. 
4. Then, pick Clear Cache. 

How to fix an iPhone charging issue

Some of the smartphone charging tips above may work for Apple users. For example, you may try to restart your iPhone or iPad or use different power outlets, cables and chargers. 

Try blowing on your device port and then charging it for half an hour. If that doesn’t work, the official Apple Support page recommends a force restart for your device: 

• iPhone 8 or later and iPhone SE (2nd generation): Press and quickly release the volume up button. Press and quickly release the volume down button. Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
• iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPod touch (7th generation): Press and hold both the side (or top) button and the volume down button until the Apple logo appears.
• 6s or earlier, iPhone SE (1st generation) and iPod touch (6th generation) or earlier: Press and hold both the side (or top) button and the Home button until the Apple logo appears.

Afterwards, try recharging your mobile device. If the phone stops charging at 80%, it may have activated Optimized Battery Charging.

It is a built-in AI feature that triggers when it thinks you’ll charge your iPhone for an extended period. Also, it activates when your phone gets too warm.

Keep your mobile device cool by charging it in a cooler spot and removing its phone case.

If all else fails, bring your phone to a reputable repair center or purchase a new one.
