New probiotic beer boasts digestive health benefits

Several studies previously listed the health benefits of consuming beer in moderation.

Now, a new variation of the brew could actually boost digestive health and help fend off deadly diseases.

Researchers from the National University of Singapore (NUS) have come up with a concoction containing  a probiotic called lactobacillus paracasei L26—known for neutralizing  toxins and viruses and which promotes a healthier gut and immune system.

The micorogranism is also  proven to boost brain health among people with dementia and help improve emotions, The New York Post reported.

“The health benefits of probiotics are well known,” Alcine Chane, head researcher of the probiotic brew, told the news outlet.

“While good bacteria are often present in food that have been fermented, there are currently no beers in the market that contain probiotics,” she revealed.

Every three ounces of the drink contains one billion units of probiotic, which just happens to be the same daily amount recommended by the International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics.

To keep the probiotics stay alive, the beer is unfiltered and unpasteurized during the production stage, the report said.

Furthermore, each batch takes around a month to brew and contains a 3.5 alcohol percentage. Khristian Ibarrola / ra
