Starman signing off: Elon Musk bids farewell to Tesla Roadster in space

Elon Musk’s latest Instagram update shows the last shot from the Tesla Roadster SpaceX sent up on its Falcon Heavy rocket.

Along with its “driver” Starman, the cherry red car will be speeding toward Mars and then beyond into the asteroid belt.

The initial plan involved having the car orbit an area between the Mars and Earth planetary orbits. However, the third thruster firing pushed the rocket holding the Roadster far off course.

The new orbit will now take the car through the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter before circling back toward the Earth’s orbit.  /ra
