TikTok Is Testing A YouTube-Like Full-Screen Mode

11:03 AM December 14, 2022

People usually watch TikTok with their smartphones in a vertical orientation. Soon, you might be able to flip the screen and enlarge the view with a full-screen mode.

The Chinese video-sharing company confirmed this plan to TechCrunch. The new feature will enable users to shift clips into a horizontal full-screen mode by tapping a button.

As a result, viewers could take advantage of their wide smartphone screens. However, TikTok has not confirmed an exact release date for the full-screen mode.

The TikTok full-screen mode seems to hint at a potential strategy to compete with YouTube. For example, the new version of TikTok lets you record livestreams.

Consequently, the platform shows content longer than a few seconds. Also, users could send money to their favorite streamers as digital gifts.

It is similar to YouTube superchats but with extra steps. These are user messages that go on top of chat threads and contain a specific amount of money for the content creator.

On the other hand, TikTok users may start sharing TikTok Gifts by purchasing TikTok Coins with real money.

Then, they could spend the TikTok Coins on Gifts. After the influencer receives the Gift, that person could convert the Gift into real money.

The app also lets people place dislikes on videos to express more of their opinions regarding content.

That feature encourages further user engagement and increases the likelihood that people view ads and purchase TikTok Gifts. As a result, the platform could keep earning profit.

TikTok also provides more ways for users to earn money by letting them link their accounts to third-party stores. As a result, the platform helps small entrepreneurs promote products and services.

However, one of the recent features limits its political uses. Tiktok banned all political fundraising in response to the previous US midterm elections.

It required government officials to confirm their identities for their accounts and post content only from authentic sources.

Moreover, TikTok prevents them from pooling money in the Creator Fund for their campaigns. They could not use the gifting, tipping, and eCommerce features either.

Conclusion

Online platforms continue to improve by learning from each other. For example, TikTok is improving user experience by incorporating features from YouTube.

Other companies have been undergoing similar transformations. For instance, Snapchat enables users to try eyewear online and buy them immediately with its AR Shopping Lens
