Twitter Suspends Mastadon Links On User Bios

08:47 AM December 17, 2022

Twitter suspended its open-source competitor Mastodon from its platform on Thursday. The decision came after it explained why it banned an account that follows Elon Musk’s private jet.

Many Twitter users left the service and joined Mastodon after Musk took over the network. Also, they have added Mastodon links to their Twitter bios.

Now, Twitter disabled and flagged them with the text, “Warning: this link may be unsafe.” As of 8:00 PM PT, Twitter suspended Mastodon links that do not mention the service in the domain name.

That is a minuscule portion of Twitter’s 238 million user base, but it could gain more in the future. This trend could have prompted Twitter to suspend Mastodon links.

Conclusion

Elon Musk promised that he would defend freedom of speech, so he would allow the account that tracks his private jet, Elon Jet, to operate.

However, he shut down the account a couple of days ago. Now, Twitter suspends Mastodon links as more of its users go to the latter.
