“Far Cry 5” holds top five positions on Steam, Humble and Gamersgate; pre-order excitement grows for same-day releases “Battletech” and “Frostpunk”; sale deals propel “Destiny 2”, “The Witcher 3” and more; and there’s a curious, hilariously creepy spin on educational software, “Baldi’s Basics in Education and Learning”.

Released March 27 across Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and with no equivalent competition on PC for the foreseeable future, action game “Far Cry 5” is able to maintain its top five positions across the Steam, Humble and GamersGate stores come April 16, 2018.

Sales on proven favorites like “The Witcher 3”, “Destiny 2” (which has its Warmind expansion due May 8), “Tekken 7” and “Resident Evil 5” make an impact on the same stores’ charts.

Looking ahead, interest in franchise reboot “Battletech”, a futuristic, strategic armored warfare prospect, lodges it high in the GamersGate and GOG rankings.

City management game “Frostpunk” is due the same day, April 24, and casts its player as the leader of a colony during an ice age in which humanity has turned to steam power as the only viable means of survival, if survival is at all possible.

It also releases by April 24 and leads the GOG chart two weeks ahead of launch. The “Deadfire” expansion to “Pillars of Eternity II” arrives May 8.

On Itch.io, a hilariously sinister spin on educational software pushes up to second.

Behind the apparently slapdash construction of “Baldi’s Basics in Education and Learning” lies a disturbingly pushy virtual tutor who pursues players down school hallways when they inevitably fail a series of impossible, glitch-laden math questions.

“PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds” has now spent 55 consecutive weeks on top of Steam’s revenue-based retail chart.
