Chain Chronicle, a popular Japanese game app, will be receiving a full-fledged television anime adaptation by the end of the year to celebrate the game’s third anniversary.

The anime will be called “Chain Chronicle: Haecceitas no Hikari (Chain Chronicle: The Light of Haecceitas).” Three “chapters,” which will serve as introduction episodes for the anime series, will be released starting Dec. 3 and will have a two-week limited engagement for each chapter. The next chapter will premier on Jan. 14, 2017, and the last one on Feb. 11. Airing of the TV series will follow suit.

The cast includes Akira Ishida as Yuri, the main protagonist, Ayane Sakura as Phina and Maaya Uchida as the quirky Pirika.

FEATURED STORIES

Anime shorts were produced beforehand wherein Akira Ishida played as the nameless hero together with Maaya Uchida and Ayane Sakura, who will both be reprising their roles.

“Chain Chronicle…” is an innovative game on Android as well as iOS that can be described as a cross between traditional JRPG and line defense. Players command up to five “chibi-fied” characters–chosen from a roster of dozens–on the battlefield. They are free to move within a three-by-three grid to fend off attackers and prevent them from reaching the end goal à la Plants vs. Zombies.

Earlier this year, fans of the English version of the game faced a sad reality as the game, released by gumi Asia, shut down its servers after operating for only a little over a year; the global version was released on Dec. 8, 2014, and its servers shut down Feb. 29, 2016.

With the anime on the way, fans of the game’s story will, at the very least, be able to go on an adventure once again with Pirika and gang. Alfred Bayle
