MANILA, Philippines ? Nokia Philippines is following its parent company's announcement to replace mobile phone chargers found defective without any cost to customers.
The Finnish phone maker earlier said it is recalling 14 million defective chargers worldwide. These units were found to have loose covers that could expose the charger's components and cause electric shock.
The defective units are the AC-3E and AC-3U that were manufactured between June 15, 2009 and August 9, 2009; and the AC-4U manufactured between April 13, 2009 and October 25, 2009.
So far, no injuries have been reported in the Philippines.
In a press statement, Nokia Philippines Corporate Communications Officer Nikka Abes said that owners of the defective chargers can call the Nokia Careline (+632 886 1234) or several other numbers (+639053224923, +639202678978, and +639228589360) to have their units replaced.

There are no figures as to the number of defective chargers available in the Philippines. In most cases, some Nokia owners also buy cheap third-party chargers, as well as ?Class A? batteries from telecommunications kiosks. These units are popular due to their low price but are also notorious for easily breaking down.
Incidentally, there are no known incidences of injuries or fatalities from using third-party mobile phone batteries and chargers.
