TikTok Dislike Feature Now Active | Inquirer Technology

The TikTok Dislike Button For Comments Is Now Active

/ 09:54 AM September 24, 2022

Popular social media network TikTok recently launched a dislike button for comments. The news comes following a tweet from yesterday, September 23, 2022.

The feature appears as downvote icons next to user comments. Also, users can undo a TikTok dislike by tapping on the icon again. However, comments will not show their total number of downvotes.

If the number of downvotes does not appear, what is the purpose of the TikTok dislike function? The platform explained in a tweet that it is a way for users to inform the company about negative messages.

The company emphasized that the TikTok dislike button is not a substitute for reporting comments. Users should still go through the standard process for reporting comments.

However, the company did not elaborate on what would happen to a comment that receives many dislikes. At the time of writing, TikTok has not shared more details.

The platform joins others that have modified dislike buttons. For example, the YouTube dislike button does not show a video’s total number of dislikes.

Like the TikTok dislike button, only the video poster can see that total. Moreover, users are free to take back dislikes whenever. Meanwhile, Reddit also has a downvote button.

Unlike the other two. Reddit allows everyone to view the total number of upvotes and downvotes. Moreover, upvotes enable users to accumulate Karma.

Reddit Karma represents your contribution to the social network community. However, it does not offer more benefits to users.

The China-based app also launched the livestream function called TikTok LIVE. Now, you can record yourself in real time. Unlike regular clips, it can last for 30 minutes or more.

You will need to meet specific requirements before you can access this feature. First, you should be 18 years old or more to use TikTok LIVE.

Second, your account should have 1,000 followers and be at least 30 days old. TikTok LIVE lets you earn money from donations via TikTok coins, gifts, and diamonds.

TikTok also implemented a political fundraising ban to maintain its purpose as an entertainment platform. It would test the feature in the United States in time for the upcoming Midterm Elections.

Accounts owned by politicians and governments will not have access to the Creator Fund. Also, they cannot link to their fundraising websites.
