Google DeepMind is developing a better AI than ChatGPT
Google’s newly formed artificial intelligence research division DeepMind announced it is creating a chatbot to rival ChatGPT. According to VentureBeat, CEO Demis Hassabis calls the new project Gemini and claims it will “tap techniques that helped AlphaGo defeat a Go champion in 2016.
OpenAI wowed the world with its revolutionary generative AI program. Nowadays, it is expanding internet access, threatening Google’s dominance over online searches. In response, Google is creating a similar AI tool to rival OpenAI and remain competitive. Nevertheless, their competition will open better AI services for everyone worldwide.
See how the world’s favorite online search engine will transform our web browsing experience. This article will discuss DeepMind’s latest development. Later, I will cover Google’s other artificial intelligence projects.

Meta-reinforcement learning quickly adapts to new tasks by learning strong inductive biases. This is done via a slower outer learning loop training on a distribution of tasks, leading to an inner loop that rapidly adapts by maintaining a history of past actions and observations. pic.twitter.com/CH9e1KE9f1

The DeepMind website says the division started in 2010 when people thought AI was merely science fiction. However, generative AI placed artificial intelligence in the mainstream in 2023.
In response, Google merged DeepMind with the Brain team from Google Research to create AI solutions for humanity. DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis says his division will aggressively compete with OpenAI.
Article continues after this advertisementIts latest project is Gemini, which Google CEO Sundar Pichai touts as the company’s “next-generation foundation model.” Also, he shared more details on a Google blog:
“Gemini was created from the ground up to be multimodal, highly efficient AI tool and API integrations and built to enable future innovations, like memory and planning.”
“While still early, we’re already seeing impressive multimodal capabilities not seen in prior models. Once fine-tuned and rigorously tested for safety, Gemini will be available at various sizes and capabilities.”
Gemini was one of the AI projects unveiled at Google’s I/O conference last month. It would function like OpenAI’s generative AI program ChatGPT.
That means we could expect this Google project to answer queries like a human. More importantly, it would likely produce various texts like jokes, research papers, and novels.

Yet, Gemini would allegedly be special because it would use technology from DeepMind’s AI system AlphaGo. The DeepMind webpage says it is the “first computer program to defeat a professional human Go player.”
Go is an ancient Chinese board game like a more difficult version of Chess. IT insider website Techzine says Gemini will use AlphaGo’s “reinforcement learning.”
It is a type of machine learning that rewards AI models for desirable behaviors and punishes them for undesirable ones. It’s like operant conditioning in psychology. Google DeepMind believes it will teach Gemini to solve problems more effectively.
What are Google’s other AI projects?
DeepMind’s Gemini isn’t the only ongoing Google AI project. The company announced numerous artificial intelligence services during its I/O conference in May 2023.
Generative AI upgrades to online search are the most significant ones. CEO Sundar Pichai went on stage and explained how artificial intelligence would radically change the company’s search engine.
He said it would replace the traditional “10 blue links” with AI-generated summaries based on the top search results. Consequently, users receive answers immediately. The summaries show their sources to provide more details.

Also, the AI-improved search engine may ask follow-up questions to improve suggestions. Gemini is not the only generative Google AI in the works. The tech juggernaut has also been developing Magi, which could replace the old search engine.
Google also created Bard, its first attempt at creating an AI chatbot. Unfortunately, it required numerous upgrades after having significant factual errors in its online ad. These programs offer Google two choices for improving its search engine.
On the one hand, it could replace its old search engine with Magi. Conversely, the tech firm may upgrade its search platform by integrating it with Bard or Gemini. Perhaps Google would create an entirely new experience with all these AI programs!
Conclusion
Google DeepMind is creating a new artificial intelligence system designed to rival ChatGPT. It will use a different machine-learning method to solve problems more effectively.
This AI division has not released a demo of this AI chatbot. Also, the company has not shared more information about its release date and features.
