Salvaged gold from old motherboards now used to make jewelry

The appetite for more advanced electronics has resulted to more e-waste being dumped into garbage piles all around the world.
One way to help reduce e-waste is to recycle components found in electronic devices, like gadgets and computer parts.
Article continues after this advertisementComputer maker Dell decided to take a more fashion-centric approach. The company is partnering with Hollywood actress Nikki Reed to create a line of jewelry made from gold salvaged from old motherboards
The limited edition collection has been showcased at the recent Consumer Electronics Show 2018 and dubbed “The Circular Collection by Bayou with Love.”
According to Dell, the jewelry are made in the United States and sourced from gold reclaimed by the company’s recycling programs.
Article continues after this advertisementThe jewelry collection includes 14- and 18-carat gold rings, earrings and cufflinks. All items are now available for pre-order at the “Bayou with Love” website.

Dell’s confidence with its recycling process has led it to use reclaimed gold into new products. The company’s new Latitude 5285 2-in-1 computers will have motherboards which use recycled gold.
Only 12.5 percent of e-waste currently gets recycled. In America alone, reports state that around $60 million (P30.2 billion) worth of gold and silver are being thrown away by disposing old phones.
Reed said “Bayou with Love” was created to bring awareness about human impact on the planet. The brand specializes in offering items sustainably sourced from recycled materials. JB
