Inkjets that grab, print video frames

MANILA, Philippines?Inkjet printers have seen much improvement in the last couple of years.

Canon?s new Pixma printers, which fall under the all-in-one and single function inkjet printer category, have the ability to produce photo-quality printouts alongside a host of features.

These printers may print wirelessly via Bluetooth, turn out images directly from a USB flash drive or any storage card, and print frames from high definition video footage.

The last feature is an interesting addition to Pixma?s capabilities. Called the ?full HD Movie Print,? it allows for the printing of frames selected from video footage created by a Canon digital camera.

Canon has also introduced applications that go with the new printers, both online, PC and printer installation, to help Pixma users produce or access images they want to print.

For example the Easy-PhotoPrint EX app allows users to import directly from the photo sharing website Flickr. The Easy-WebPrint EX is a web printing solution for printing only what you need from web pages with complicated layouts.

The application ?single click fit-to-page? allows for the size of the clipped web page content to be made bigger or smaller to fit onto a single sheet of page, while the ?booklet print? feature allows users to make an A5 sized booklet out of clipped web materials.

Also, the printers feature the ?auto photo fix? application, which comes with the ability to correct colors, recognize faces, and enhance scenes.

The most expensive among the new Pixma printers is the MG8170. Priced at P19,295, this premium all-in-one photo printer with film scanning capability features a 3.5-inch TFT screen incorporated with an ?intelligent touch system.? The system allows the user to touch widgets and buttons on the touch sensitive screen to operate and access the printer?s features.

The newly designed user interface provides for easy and direct access to frequently used functions, such as copy, photo and scan modes.

The Pixma MG5270, priced at P8,495, is an advanced all-in-one photo printer with 2.4-inch TFT screen and features quick operation and direct disc printing.

The entry-level or affordable Pixma printers include the iP4870 (P6, 495) and the MP497 (P4,495).

The MP497 is a compact and stylish all-in-one photo printer with Wi-Fi connectivity.

Canon pioneered the microfine droplet technology which further enhanced the capability of inkjet printers to produce high quality prints.
